Definition: systems analyst

The person responsible for the development of an information system. Systems analysts design and modify systems by turning user requirements into a set of functional specifications, which are the blueprint of the system. Unless done by a data administrator, analysts design the database, and they are also responsible for the user interfaces.

The Architects
Analysts are the architects and project leaders. It is their job to develop solutions to problems, determine the technical and operational feasibility of their solutions, as well as estimate the costs to implement them.

Analysts develop system prototypes along with the users, so that the final specifications are examples of screens and reports that have been carefully reviewed. Successful analysts work directly with users and gain their trust. Systems analysts require a balanced mix of technical skills and human relations.
